We are partnering with a clinician-led private special education school to hire an Assistant Educational Director to support instructional quality, staff development, and program growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned special education professional who enjoys mentoring teachers, staying connected to classrooms, and collaborating closely with clinical teams — without being expected to function as a BCBA.
🎯 The Role at a Glance

Leadership-first position with limited direct student work (up to ~2 hours/day max)

Oversight of 10–12 special education teachers (mix of waivered and fully licensed)

Strong focus on developing newer SPED teachers

Close collaboration with embedded BCBAs and clinical leadership

Structured training provided for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) concepts and collaboration
🧠 Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership & Program Oversight
-
Support high-quality implementation of IEPs and academic programming
-
Maintain a visible presence in classrooms to:

Model instructional strategies
-
Coach teachers
-
Support classroom safety and consistency
-

Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure alignment between academic instruction and clinical programming

Learn and apply ABA principles at a systems and classroom-support level (training provided)

Support vocational, transition, and community-based programming for older students
-
Assist with planning school-wide and community events (some outside regular hours)
Staff Supervision & Development

Supervise, mentor, and evaluate waivered and licensed special education teachers

Support waivered teachers in progressing toward licensure requirements

Lead onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development

Conduct classroom observations and provide actionable feedback

Partner with leadership on performance management and growth plans
Compliance & Collaboration

Ensure instructional practices align with IDEA, ADA, Section 504, and state regulations

Support audit readiness and accurate documentation
-
Partner closely with clinical leadership to support safe, consistent implementation of behavioral supports
Family & Administrative Support

Serve as a collaborative partner to families regarding student progress

Assist with scheduling, planning, and resource coordination

Act as Educational Director when designated

🎓 Qualifications

Master’s degree in Special Education or School Administration

Active state certification/licensure in Special Education (Severe Disabilities) or School Administration

Minimum 5 years in special education, including 2+ years in leadership or supervision

Experience supervising and supporting both waivered and licensed teachers

Strong understanding of IEPs, instructional design, and classroom management

Openness to learning and collaborating around ABA (formal ABA experience welcomed but not required)

Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
